{"id":719,"date":"2018-05-13T22:05:28","date_gmt":"2018-05-14T04:05:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/uelma.org\/?p=719"},"modified":"2018-05-13T22:05:28","modified_gmt":"2018-05-14T04:05:28","slug":"tina-johnson-new-board-member","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.utahsla.org\/index.php\/2018\/05\/13\/tina-johnson-new-board-member\/","title":{"rendered":"Tina Johnson-New Board member"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"dslc-theme-content\"><div id=\"dslc-theme-content-inner\"><p><b>Tina Johnson, Davis School District<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>Paraprofessional Liaison<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Tina Johnson is the teacher librarian at Kays Creek Elementary and joins the UELMA board this year as our paraprofessional liaison.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">When asked why she wanted to become a librarian, Tina said,<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-709 alignleft\" src=\"http:\/\/www.utahsla.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/tina-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"206\" height=\"242\" \/>\u201cBooks are my life. \u00a0I love to read. I love to talk books. I can't think of anything better than being around books all day and helping kids find great books. \u00a0I also really love teaching. I love teaching kids. I love coming up with fun lessons and helping kids learn.\u201d Two librarians she considers mentors are Ann Riding and Selena Campbell, fellow UELMA board members. She considers them \u201cconference buddies,\u201d and says, \u201cThey both are amazing people and librarians. They have encouraged me to stretch and try new things.\u201d<\/span><\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A recent favorite fiction book she has read is <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Incredible Magic of Being<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> by Kathryn Erskine. The book was actually a suggestion from a student, which she loves. She says, <\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cI want them to trust my suggestions to them, so I feel like I need to read their suggestions to me as much as possible.\u201d What did she love about the book? It has \u201ca cute quirky character who you can't help but like, he's wise and caring and willing to sacrifice for those he loves. He finds Magic in the universe and shares that magic with those around him.\u201d <\/span><\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A favorite non-fiction book she recently read was <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Boys in the Boat,<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ghosts<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> by Raina Telgemeier is one of her favorite graphic novels.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Tina\u2019s fifth graders use Du Ink for green screen work when making book commercials for the whole school to view, and Adobe Spark is another favorite for allowing students to create their own content. When reading books in class, she uses Flipgrid for a way for students to express their opinions and ideas. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">She also loves Twitter as a way to connect with authors, and learn from other librarians. What is the most important quality a librarian can have, in Tina\u2019s opinion? <\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cI think librarians need to love kids first and then love books.\u201d<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">When not in the library, she says, <\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cSpending time with my family takes top priority. \u00a0My kids are older and I love when they all come home with their spouses or significant others.
